Jared Leto may have been kitten around with his Met Gala look but the furry fandom most definitely isn’t! The 30 Seconds To Mars frontman and (alleged) cult leader, arrived at the 2023 Met Gala sporting a full fursuit in homage to the event’s honoree, Karl Lagerfeld.
On Monday, May 1, Leto hit the Met Gala’s Crest-themed carpet in one of the most absurd ensembles of the evening – if not all time – donning a head-to-toe white fur suit depicting Choupette, the late Lagerfeld’s beloved blue-cream tortie Birman cat.

“Look what the cat dragged in,” Leto captioned a clip of his (short) hair-raising outfit shared with his more than 11 million Instagram followers.
But beyond confusing his fans, Lizzo and this poor, visibly-concerned dog (same), Leto’s Choupette getup managed to irk yet another demographic – furries.

As Leto’s look began making the rounds online, several members of the fandom took to Twitter to condemn Leto’s furry faux paw.
“I speak for the entire Furry community when I say that this is our 9-11,” wrote Twitter user @JoofWoof alongside an image of Leto’s catsuit, adding that they were apparently so abhorred by the ensemble, they “started barking” at their phone upon spying the snap.

“Can we leave sex pest fursuit reveals to the masked singer please,” asked @EmmaHouxbois, referencing the allegations against the star, including his pattern of purportedly “a little too much attention to underage girls,” as Gawker’s Olivia Craighead so aptly put last spring.
Meanwhile, Twitter user @DerekBGayle contextualized the looming shitstorm the singer may have CAT-alyzed with his gala getup.
“Jared Leto has declared war on the furries, the one group who may be powerful enough to finally take him down,” they wrote alongside the original post.
But it wasn’t just furries who were furry-ious about Leto’s look. Several non-furries also spoke out on the controversy, expressing solidarity – and sympathy – to their fur-clad comrades.
“Lmfaooo it’s fun to mess with y’all but deadass I’m sending y’all love rn I could not IMAGINE,” mused @SueRecital.
“A moment of silence for the furry community please,” added @forthetiredones.
5/1 – a day the furries will never, ever forget.
